As usual, we were on the hunt for Star Wars products at Armageddon Expo Auckland – and we were not disappointed! There was a fantastic array of items to browse – action figures, handbags, t-shirts, door mats, 12″ figures, jewelry, artwork, and more!

With the new Star Wars films and television series, we have definitely see more Star Wars licensed products available locally in New Zealand. Obviously Star Wars is only one of many different fandoms represented at Armageddon, but it was great to see just how much Star Wars stuff there was to buy! Not just the usual action figures that are available in stores already, but a variety of artwork and fan crafted items – as well as some fantastic sale deals!

There have been a few years in the past where I have come home from Armageddon having never opened my wallet, there just wasn’t anything I wanted – not so this year! So much great stuff – I had to pick up quite a few business cards to check out stores online after the event as well. I am really looking forward to checking out all the booths at next years event.

One of the highlights of every Armageddon Expo is of course the costumers. As long-time Armageddon attendees, it has been great to see the number and variety of costumes grow each year – there were a significant number of Star Wars costumes at this event. As well as the troopers from the 501st Legion and Rebel Legion, there was a fantastic variety of expo attendees showing off their Star Wars costumes from the Star Wars films, expanded universe, and even some original designs.

I was personally happy to see so many female Star Wars characters represented – Rey, Jyn Erso, Padme’ Amidala, Vice Admiral Holdo, Sabine, Ahsoka Tano, Darth Talon, Asajj Ventress, Juno Eclipse, as well as a female jedi, ewok with baby, and even a rebel twi’lek!

Next year, Armageddon Expo Auckland will be just weeks before the premiere of Star Wars Episode 9 – I look forward to seeing which characters we might see cosplaying at next years event!

As always, there were some great celebrity guests at this years Armageddon Expo Auckland event. While we were sad to see that Alan Tudyk (K-2SO from Rogue One) couldn’t attend after being previously announced, there were plenty of other guests to see and panels to attend.

This year, we particularly enjoyed the Supernatural panels with Osric Chau, Jeffrey Vincent Parise, David Haydn-Jones, and Ty Olsson – the camaraderie between the actors was obvious, and made for a lot of fun. We also really enjoyed seeing The Hillywood Show return to New Zealand –  this time they were celebrating their recently released Supernatural Parody 2, which fit well with the Supernatural actor panels. It coordinated really well having Osric Chau attending this year – he played a significant character on Supernatural, as well as being involved in several Hillywood parodies.

It was great to see Christina Ricci in person, and she gave some interesting insights into her long acting career, from her early roles in films including Casper, The Addams Family, and one of our personal favourites, Sleepy Hollow. As Stargate fans, it was a great pleasure to see Michael Shanks visiting NZ once again.

We are really looking forward to seeing the guest announcements for next years Auckland expo – fingers crossed for a Star Wars actor!
