Anaria and I have gone out of our way to collect items from and about The Chronicles of Riddick, and have managed to amass a good few statues, figures, and screen-used costumes, but the range available is limited compared to some franchises, so it’s fun to hunt down ephemera like this Chronicles of Riddick coverage in British sci-fi magazine Starburst. The Vin Diesel cover image makes it a worthwhile addition to our Riddick collection

The June 2004 issue (issue 311) came out just as the movie was hitting theatres in the same month. It features interview soundbites from Vin Diesel about Riddick’s universe, as well as lots of film stills (including Karl Urban and Thandie Newton) and behind-the-scenes images.

The Atari Connection magazine was published from 1981 through to 1984. I grew up with Atari computers in the early ’80s, so thought it was particularly cool when Lucasfilm started up a game production group in 1982, assisted by funding from Atari. They were originally called the Lucasfilm Games Group, reshuffling to be known as LucasArts beyond 1990. The Lucasfilm Games Group made a number of games that were ahead of their time – “Ballblazer”, “Rescue on Fractalus”, “Koronis Rift”, and “The Eidolon”, in particular. The 1984 Spring issue of the Atari Connection magazine features an interview presenting a series of tips and secrets from the Lucasfilm Games Group.

This was the first issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine, from September 1994. Slightly confusingly, it was referred to as issue 23, as the issue numbering continued on from the pre-existing Lucasfilm Fan Club Magazine. The mid-’90s were a very different time in terms of Star Wars news, and this publication is a fun time capsule from that era, where stories had to be scraped together despite the lack of any upcoming movies. The expanded universe novels were just starting to gather momentum, and merchandise was still pretty sparse, as even POTF2 action figure were still yet to be released.

Issue 23 of the Star Wars Insider featured interviews with Carrie Fisher, Kenny Baker, and Dennis Lawson, and an article on the Star Wars Holiday Special.
