Today’s unboxing features three Grogu figures from The Bounty Collection by Hasbro. This is an ongoing series of cute non-posable figures of Grogu (and more recently other characters), in a variety of poses inspired by his appearance in The Mandalorian.

When this series first launched, we weren’t sure if we wanted to start another collection – we already own a few Grogu figures from the Funko Pop! Vinyl range. We were gifted a couple of figures from series 3, and were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked them. We recently picked a few more from series 4 and 5 so we unboxed them on video – and can already see ourselves adding more to this new collection!

While the earlier series had window boxes, these figures from series 4 and 5 are part of Hasbro’s new ‘plastic free packaging’ line and are just packaged in cardboard boxes. The images on the front of the box are a pretty good representation of the figure inside – this is not a random ‘blind box’ line, so the lack of a window for these isn’t an issue.

Each series has 6 designs to collect – these are pictured on the side of the box, so you can see which designs to choose from, or use it as a checklist to collect them all! Personally, I think these are some of the better designs from series 4 and 5 – some figures are just a simple pose, while other figures include extra elements like a helmet or creature.

Unboxing these figures and getting to see them up close in person, I think they are really well done! Each figure has a good level of detail for the cute stylized design, and I already want to collect more from this line.

Here are our three new The Bounty Collection figures –

• Series 5 – figure #30 – Grogu with Beskar

We already own two figures from series 3 – when the packaging still had plastic windows, so you could clearly see the figure inside before purchasing. These figures were gifts, and as you can see, we liked them so much we ended up getting more!

Overall, my opinion has changed on this series – at first I wasn’t that interested, but now I really want to collect more! Some of the designs are more interesting than others, but once you get a few together on display, I can see how the simple poses work within the whole collection.

This life-size statue of The Child aka “Baby Yoda” from Star Wars: The Mandalorian was first announced and made available for pre-order from Sideshow Collectibles back in January of this year. The first wave of orders have started shipping out to eager customers around the globe. You can still place an order for this realistic 1:1 collectible either locally via Mighty Ape (affiliate link) or direct from Sideshow Collectibles, but the expected delivery date is sometime between January and end of March from both of those sources.

The Child is distributed by Sideshow, but is crafted by Legacy Effects, who made the original “Baby Yoda” puppet that was used on-screen in The Mandalorian series. It comes with a solid base, and a Razor Crest control knob that he can hold in one hand via magnets. This full-scale version of the character is not articulated, but an articulated one made by Hot Toys is also available (Mighty Ape; affiliate link).

We’ll shortly be taking a ton of photos and videos in order to post a full review, but in the first instance wanted to get a video made that shows everyone how he comes in the box, so without further ado, here is our unboxing video straight from when the shipping carton was dropped off by the courier.

I had a wonderful Star Wars-themed family day for Father’s Day today, starting with surprise gifts from our daughter, who drew this cute Baby Yoda/The Child sketch card and managed to purchase gifts including a Black Series The Mandalorian stormtrooper as well as flowers, without me knowing.

The day was fully allocated to relaxation, watching a few movies together and catching up on some Star Wars gaming (Star Wars: The Old Republic).

Historically we’ve been big collectors of 3.75″ scale figures, but the characters from The Mandalorian have been an impetus to shift up to 6″ scale, at least for the subset of action figures from this series. It was inevitable then that we’d grab the Black Series 6″ scale figure of The Child aka “Baby Yoda”.

The packaging for this figure is obviously smaller than standard TBS6 boxing. In fact, it was notably smaller to see this in person when I finally had it in hand (we preordered via The Warehouse, and got it at the great price of NZ$19). Some collectors have commented that the figure itself is a little under scaled … this is perhaps correct, although it is worth considering that we very infrequently see The Child standing on the ground next to other adult human characters in any episodes of The Mandalorian. In the few reference photos that exist out there, he only just comes up to Din Djarin’s knee when both are standing together.

The figure itself is nicely done for its scale. It has 7 points of articulation in total (head, wrists, shoulders, and both feet, despite being hidden under his sculpted cloak). Most of the joints are ball-articulation, giving multiple axes of movement (but his limbs do have a tendency to pop off if pushed to the limits of their range of movement).

The Child comes with a froggy snack, soup bowl, and Razor Crest lever knob. They are very small. Fortunately, these tiny accessories come in a little acrylic storage box, and they will more likely live there than try and display them in The Child’s hands, as he will probably just drop them. It would have been nice if he had come with an anti-grav pram/bed. Still, given the short-falls of figure scale and likely-to-get-lost accessories, it’s cool to have Baby Yoda along with the other characters in this range so far, and we’re looking forward to getting more 6″ scale The Mandalorian figures in the future.

It was a little while back when The Mandalorian started screening on Disney+, and instantly it seemed like everyone was trying to get The Child (aka “Baby Yoda”) merch made and noticed, so it seems kinda weird that a lot of the products are only now just starting to ship out when we are right in the void between season 1 and season 2. Nevertheless, I understand why there was a lag in production, particularly given the impact of the character reveal that Disney and the showrunners wanted to achieve.

One of the expected and anticipated collectibles is this standard The Child Funko Pop! Vinyl bobble-head figure. I say “standard”, but this collectible differs a little from all other standard Pop! Vinyl figures in that, because of the width of The Child’s ears, the figure is packaged in a sideways-oriented box that is otherwise the same size as the basic 4″ Pop! Vinyl figures.

Since the time this figure was announced, a whole lot of additional poses and versions have been teased. This one, with “Baby Yoda” doing “the magic hand thing”, is arguably the most classic, and a great staple item to have in your Star Wars collection.

Because of the mass and width of his head, the actual bobble-head feature is quite dramatic… put him down on a surface, and his little ears will still be waggling some time later. The sculpting of the fabric on his cloak is great, and his pose and facial expression really capture the essence of this character. He’s not in scale with the other Pop! Vinyl figures that we have from The Mandalorian, but that’s okay as he works as a standalone collectible.
