An exciting mail call – our LEGO Star Wars May 4th order has arrived! As usual LEGO had a great promotion for Star Wars Day, with special free promo sets – the perfect time to grab some of the new sets that we had seen on display at Star Wars Celebration Europe.

We picked up three LEGO Star Wars sets, which qualified us for two Star Wars Day May 4th special ‘free gift with purchase’ sets. There was also a third Star Wars Day promo, a Death Star coin, but we suspect NZ did not get a lot of stock of that one because it was gone by the time we were able to place our order. We don’t mind – we were most excited about the two promos we did get, as they are actual LEGO sets.

First up, the new LEGO Star Wars Brick Headz Battle Of Endor Heroes (set 40623). This was originally released as a ‘first to market’ item at Star Wars Celebration Europe, where we got to see it in person. As it was not a convention exclusive, we preferred to wait and buy it at home rather than try to get it home in our suitcase. It was great to see the set built up in person at the convention, so we’ve been eagerly awaiting the moment we could get our hands on it.

The set includes five Brick Headz figures, all from Return Of The Jedi – Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, Lando Calrissian, Wicket, and Princess Leia. I have a few LEGO Star Wars Brick Headz figures already, including the classic white dress Princess Leia from A New Hope, so I’m excited to add five more to my collection.

Next up, another new set celebrating Return Of The Jedi – the Endor Speeder Chase scene (set 75353). This set features a Biker Scout on speeder bike racing through the trees on Endor, being followed close behind by Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia on another speeder bike. I can’t wait to build this set – so many great little details.

The third set we picked up was from Attack Of The Clones – Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi Starfighter (set 75333). I first started collecting Star Wars during the prequel era, so I’m very fond of collectibles that really take me back to that time. As well as Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter, the set includes three mini-figures – Obi-Wan Kenobi, R4-P17, and Taun We.

Those three sets qualified us for two exclusive giveaway sets – the first, and the one we are the most excited about, is Death Star II (set 40591). The box for this is bigger than we were expecting for a free giveaway set!

The Death Star II set includes a little plaque for the 40th Anniversary of Return Of The Jedi, which is a great match for the other two ROTJ sets we picked up.

Our second ‘free gift with purchase’ promo set is the polybag X-Wing Starfighter (set 30654). Not as exciting as the boxed Death Star II set, but hey, you can’t go wrong with a cute little X-Wing Starfighter! While X-Wing Starfighters are seen throughout the Original Trilogy, this polybag also features the ROTJ 40th Anniversary logo.

We are very happy with our LEGO Star Wars haul for May the Fourth – five sets in total, with a focus on Return Of The Jedi – very fitting as we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the film this month. I can’t wait to get stuck in and start building – now I just have to decide which set to build first!

Happy Star Wars Day! May the 4th be with you.

I’ve recently been getting back into Lego Star Wars – collecting that is, not that I ever really wasn’t into Lego. I grew up with Lego, and collected a lot of the Star Wars sets in the early 2000’s, but unfortunately sold them all to focus on the 3.75″ action figures. Fast forward and now I’m finally diving back in. Late last year I picked up the Armored Assault Tank set, but I’ve had my eye on some of the more collector-focused sets. There were some great Lego Star Wars promotions leading up to Star Wars Day, and so… here we are!

We picked up the Darth Vader and Biker Scout helmets, and the Imperial Probe Droid set.

Lego were offering some great free gifts this year, including Aunt Beru in the Lars Homestead Kitchen, a small AT-ST, and a Beskar ingot keyring. My favourite has to be the homestead set – a small scene from A New Hope, but it works so well in this cute little Lego scale.

I can’t wait to get stuck in and build these great sets. May the 4th be with you!

I’ve been feeling a bit nostalgic lately, and recently did a big sort through of my childhood Lego – I even rebuilt one of my favourite sets. If there’s something I’ve learnt about Lego, is that playing with it makes you want to buy more of it. So, adding this new Lego Star Wars set to my collection should come as no surprise. Introducing Lego Star Wars set #75283 Armored Assault Tank.

This set represents officially dipping my toe back into collecting Star Wars Lego sets. I originally had a lot of the sets from the prequel era, but sold them all to focus on my action figure collection. Nowadays I tend to let my passions direct my collecting, rather than trying to stick to a specific format, so I’m enjoying collecting a wide range of Star Wars items – whatever sparks joy. So, that means that Lego is back on the shopping list! Will I go back and reacquire the sets I sold? Maybe, maybe not, but for now I’m happy to pick up a set or two that feature some of my favourite characters and vehicles – like this set with Ahsoka!

I had so much fun building this set! I first got into Lego Star Wars around the release of Attack Of The Clones in 2002, so many of my original sets featured clone troopers and battle droids – I even had the fabulous Republic Gunship! This set felt like the perfect way to get back into Lego Star Wars – prequel era, it includes a clone trooper mini-figure, two battle droids, and as an added bonus, a great Ahsoka Tano mini-figure too!

This set is inspired by season 7 of The Clone Wars, so it features Ahsoka Tano in her blue and silver outfit, with blue lightsabers. That was such an epic season, so I’m glad to see some great Lego sets for it. The instructions were easy to follow, and it didn’t take too long to build. I don’t have a specific spot to display Lego in our collection yet, so this will probably go alongside some of my other Ahsoka Tano collectibles for now.

I’m already eyeing up a few other neat Lego Star Wars sets, they are creating some amazing designs these days!

Lego was a central toy in my childhood. From the basic bricks to the themed sets like Pirates or Lego City, I spent untold hours creating and playing with Lego. I still have all my childhood Lego, though it’s well used and I don’t have the box or instructions for many of the sets. Then it got all mixed up again after our daughter played with it in her childhood, getting new sets to add in to the mix. Nowadays, we have several generations of Lego all mixed together in big storage tubs.

In the Star Wars prequel era (2002-2005), I started hunting down as many Lego Star Wars sets as I could, and got quite a good collection. It grew alongside my Star Wars 3.75″ action figure collection, until I finally had to make a choice – I didn’t have the space or the budget to continue collecting both. I made the decision to sell my Lego Star Wars sets, and continue collecting the action figures.

Now, years later, the Lego bug has bitten again – there have been a few new sets released that finally tipped the scales and got me to buy Star Wars Lego again. But first, a look back at one of my original Lego sets.

LEGO Paradisa Rolling Acres Ranch (6419)

This is one of the oldest Lego sets in my collection. I was a horse-mad girl in my youth, so I loved anything to do with horses. This Lego set included three horse figures, so of course it was on my wish list. I *think* I got this as a Christmas gift, or perhaps it was a birthday gift – either way, I know it was a gift from my parents when I was quite young (this set was released in 1992).

After all those years, I am thankful that I still have it, including the box – though sadly I lost the construction booklet somewhere along the way, but thanks to the internet I was able to access an online copy to rebuild the set. It was really fun to build a Lego set from childhood, with all the original pieces (well, I think it’s missing one or two). I am so glad that I still have it, all these years later.

We went along to a local Lego Star Wars 20th Anniversary event yesterday, which was a really neat display. We were there to see the completion of the huge Lego Star Wars mosaic mural, but when we arrived we realised they were also giving out free Lego to fans as well!

The event had several build tables set up, with three different options – build a tile for the mosaic mural (but not keep), build a mini Star Wars vehicle (to keep), and a third table with lots of random Lego to build unique creations to show off (but not keep).

We joined the queue for the Star Wars mini-vehicle build tables. It was well set up so fans could follow instruction cards to build a mini Lego Star Wars Star Destroyer vehicle. A great way to pass the time until the mural completion ceremony, it was quite fun putting together these cute sets! The mini-vehicles even included little display stands.

They also had a supply of free Lego Star Wars mini-fig key chains for those who built mini-vehicle sets or mural tiles – we choose Rey and Poe Dameron.

Lastly, we also picked up these Lego Star Wars sticker sets, which are quite large – as indicated in the back page image, you can put these on the wall. Perfect for decorating a Lego build space at home.

All in all, it was an awesome event celebrating Lego and Star Wars, I’m so glad we were able to attend.

On Sunday 6th October, to wrap up our Triple Force Friday weekend, we went along to a LEGO Star Wars event being held at the St Lukes shopping mall, where a giant LEGO mosaic was being constructed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars.

The mosaic, featuring Episode 9 versions of Rey and Kylo Ren, had been under construction over the preceding week. The overall promotion included opportunities for kids to build creative LEGO constructions, and for LEGO Star Wars fans to take home mini LEGO kits (and there were plenty to go around… we grabbed tiny LEGO Star Destroyers each) and LEGO Star Wars mini-figure key rings.

It was really impressive to see the record-breaking mosaic display (the largest LEGO mosaic in NZ history), and to see the crowds of fans and interested passers-by checking out the build and finale when certified LEGO professional Ryan “The Brickman” McNaught (who we enjoyed watching on LEGO Masters Australia) guided a couple of young fans from the audience to place the last of 4608 tiles (each made up of 6×6 LEGO bricks, for a total of 165,888 LEGO pieces) in to complete the final gap in the Star Wars logo.

As a Princess Leia collector, I couldn’t resist this cute Lego Brick Headz figure. I already have the Brick Headz Rey figure and love the stylized design – so I grabbed this Leia as soon as it showed up on sale. This figure depicts Princess Leia in her classic white dress from A New Hope, complete with her ‘Defender’ blaster pistol.

The Lego Brick Headz figures are similar in style to the popular Funko Pop! Vinyl figures, though the Lego figures are a little smaller. This Leia figure measures approximately 8.5cm high including the base. The Lego figure is a fun and quick build, great for fans like me who love Lego but don’t have the space to collect the big sets alongside our other Star Wars collectibles.

Princess Leia’s white dress doesn’t have too many details, so it translates well to this simplified block design – plain white for the dress, with a few pieces that have a printed belt detail that goes all the way around. The figure even has her large draped hood at the back. Her iconic bun hairstyle translates really well in Lego brick form too.

Now, it’s not often I find something in a Lego build that I think I could do better, but this particular detail had me a little baffled. The back section of Leia’s hair is made of two brown rectangle pieces. In the instructions, the plates are put on horizontally – but the line between the two pieces makes the perfect ‘hair part’ detail – if placed vertically. When Leia’s hair is parted to form her hair buns, her hair is parted down the middle, so placing these two pieces vertically forms the ‘part’. So I changed the orientation for my figure – a small detail, but one that makes so much more sense to me.

I really like the Lego Brick Headz figures – a great way of collecting Star Wars Lego without going down the rabbit hole and collecting all the big scene sets and mini figures. I hope to see more in the line – especially Queen Amidala so I can display her beside Leia and Rey.

I generally tried to avoid the temptation of Lego collecting, but when Lego revealed the new Brick Headz figure range, I couldn’t resist. They are basically the Lego version of Pop! Vinyl figures, so they can be collected by themselves, without descending into full blown Lego set addiction. As a Rey collector, I love the cute stylised design of this figure – it was quite fun to build and see the figure take shape.
